Calendar dates and observed dates have different jobs
A holiday can fall on a weekend while its observed day falls on a weekday. This 2027 calendar with holidays lists both, so you can distinguish a celebration from a federal office closure. The reference is based on the US Office of Personnel Management schedules for 2027 and 2028. It applies to most federal employees with a Monday-through-Friday schedule. It does not establish a school calendar or require a private business to close.
Read the four shifted observances
Juneteenth is Saturday, June 19, observed Friday, June 18. Independence Day is Sunday, July 4, observed Monday, July 5. Christmas is Saturday, December 25, observed Friday, December 24. New Year's Day 2028 is Saturday, January 1, so its observed day is Friday, December 31, 2027. That last entry comes from the next year's OPM schedule, but belongs on a calendar covering dates within 2027.
Keep other dates in context
The remaining entries are January 1 and 18, February 15, May 31, September 6, October 11, and November 11 and 25. OPM uses the names Washington's Birthday and Columbus Day; these files retain that terminology. The Friday after Thanksgiving is not included as a federal holiday. March, April and August have no observed dates in this list. Add local observances only after checking the relevant organization.
Print a reference beside your calendar
The free holiday reference is a portrait sheet with one entry per holiday, separate columns of meaning for observed and calendar dates, and a source link. Select Letter or A4 to match your paper. Check all twelve entries in the preview before printing. Use the annual overview for orientation and the monthly grids for appointments. The editable Planner Pack carries the same observed dates into its month view alongside your own events, without assuming that a federal holiday changes your personal availability.
